This publication encapsulates everything about the exhibition "Dirndl: Tradition Goes Fashion" held at the OÖ Landes-Kultur in Linz, Austria. The exhibition delves into the history of the Dirndl, exploring its evolution from its traditional roots to a contemporary fashion statement. Curated by Thekla Weissengruber and edited by Alfred Weidinger, I had the privilege of collaborating with Studio Yukiko to design the catalogue.

For over 170 years, the dirndl has seamlessly intertwined tradition and fashion. What initially served as a pragmatic work attire for maids and servants gradually transformed, around the 1900s, into a stylish summer dress embraced by urban residents. Astonishingly, it even shattered the longstanding fashion conventions dictated by the nobility. Reverberating as a symbol of Austria's heritage, the dirndl transcends its origins to embody a vibrant fashion statement. The exhibition "Dirndl: Tradition Goes Fashion" intricately unveils the captivating and dynamic narrative of the dirndl's evolution, tracing its journey from a conventional "garment" in Salzkammergut to the high fashion marvels crafted by luminaries like Susanne Bisovsky and Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood.
